Paul Hindemith

Paul Hindemith (1895–1963) was a German and American composer, conductor, music theorist, and teacher. A prominent figure in the Neue Sachlichkeit movement, his notable works include the opera Mathis der Maler, the song cycle Das Marienleben, and the oratorio When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd. After emigrating to the United States and Switzerland during World War II, he spent his later years conducting and recording his own compositions.
