Roy Decarava

Roy Rudolph DeCarava was an American photographer and university teacher whose career spanned nearly six decades. He gained critical acclaim for his black and white fine-art photography, which focused on the lives of African Americans and jazz musicians. DeCarava is recognized for establishing a subjective, individual creative sensibility that distinguished his work from the social documentary style of his predecessors.
